New Delhi: While the ticket price to enter the historical Taj Mahal remains unchanged, tourists will now have to pay extra to view the monument from a recently inaugurated vantage point, stated authorities on Friday.
Agra Development Authority (ADA) had developed the new viewpoint at a cost of Rs 35 lakh, stated a report. It was opened for the public on November 16 at Mehtab Bagh of Agra in Uttar Pradesh. Notably, the viewpoint is situated behind the Taj Mahal across the Yamuna river. Besides the vantage point, authorities have also set up a platform to view the monument for a duration of 30 minutes, stated news agency PTI.
While the ticket price to view the Mughal-era monument from the vantage point is Rs 50 per person for Indian tourists, it is Rs 200 per person for foreign visitors effective from Friday onwards, stated an ADA press release. Earlier, the ticket price was Rs 20 for both domestic and foreign visitors. Notably, children below the age of 12 years can enter for free.
The guidelines enlisted by the Supreme Court states that the Taj Mahal will be open during Poornima or full moon for a period of five days which includes two days before and two days after the full moon. However, the monument will be closed for public viewing if any of the five days is a Friday. It must be noted that the ticket price to view the Taj Mahal in the moonlight is Rs 200 per person for Indians and Rs 500 per person for foreigners. The timings on the day of moonlight are 12 noon till 12 midnight. For the rest of the days, the timings to view the Taj Mahal will be 12 noon to 7 PM.
